Travel
1.
What do I
need to enter Ontario and are passports required?
Arrival by Air: Beginning January 23, 2007, All persons, including U.S.
Citizens, travelling by air between the United States and Canada (including in
transit passengers who are transferring planes in the U.S.) will be required to
present a valid passport or Air NEXUS card or return to the U.S.
Arrival by Land and Sea: Visitors can continue to use such documents as their
birth certificates and drivers' licenses to cross the Canada/US. border by land
and sea (including ferries) for at least another year.
American visitors may be asked to verify their citizenship with such documents
as a passport or a birth certificate. Naturalized U.S. citizens should carry a
naturalization certificate.
2.
Are we allowed to
cross the border with firearms?
ALL fully automatic weapons, handguns and pepper spray are prohibited in Canada.
You must obtain a gun permit for your guns. Refer to www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca. You may
bring a hunting rifle or shotgun into Ontario for hunting or Competition
purposes in you are 18 years of age or older. Firearms must be Registered for a
fee of $25. This permit is valid for a period of 60 days. You can also bring up
to 200 rounds of ammunition for hunting.

How much alcohol and tobacco are we allowed to bring across the border?
You are allowed to bring in 24 cans or bottles of beer or 40 oz liquor or 1.5
litres of wine free of duties and taxes. You must be 19 years of age to import
alcohol into Ontario. Any amount in excess of 45 liters will not be allowed
entry.
1 carton of Cigarettes and 50 cigars and 1 – 200g can of tobacco and 200 tobacco
sticks. Duties and taxes are collected on any excess amounts. You must be 19
years of age to import tobacco products into Ontario

I have an old "DUI" will it be a problem crossing the border?
There are steps that must be taken a minimum of 6 weeks prior to your travel
date. This includes any dui convictions. You will not be permitted access to
Canada unless these steps have been fully complied with. For info on minor

5. Were can I stay in Wawa?
Many of our guests will choose to stay in Wawa the night before their arrival at
the lodge. There are many places to stay to fit all budgets. Please refer to

6. Will are car be safe
at the landing parking lot?
Your car will be left in a secure parking lot and the parking fee will be $3.00
per day
7.
How will the roads be driving up and will I have to drive on gravel?
You will be travelling on paved roads the whole time until you reach the parking
lot
8. How will get to the lodge
from the landing?
The trip from the landing to the lodge is about 12 mile. Depending on the size
of your group we will pick you and your group up in our 23' Starcraft boat. The
trip usually takes about 25 minutes
9. Is there a weight
restriction on what we can bring?
Though we don't have a weight limit per se we do ask that you try to limit what
you bring. There is a limit to the load we can bring on the taxi boat

What parents should know when traveling to Canada with their child?
Guests under the age of 18 and unaccompanied by a parent need a letter of
permission to travel in Canada from a parent or guardian. If you are travelling
with children, you should carry identification for each child. Divorced parents
who share custody of their children should carry copies of the legal custody
documents.
Fishing
1. Can I bring my own boat?
You are welcome to bring you own boat if you choose. The boat should be big
enough that you will feel comfortable bringing it the 12 miles to camp. There
are no extra docking fees. You can take 10% per person off any package (fuel not
included)
2. Do you provide life jackets?
We do provide keyhole life vests but strongly recommend you bring you own
personal PFD
3. What is your catch and release
policy?
On our walk-in lakes we ask that you practice catch and release angling. These
are small lakes and we want to see them preserved for future generations. On the
main lake regular limits apply though we appreciate those who choose to purchase
conservation licenses.
4. How many different
species can we fish for?
In our waters we have walleye, Northern Pike ,Lake trout, Smallmouth, Perch,
Brook Trout and Whitefish. Every year our guests will catch a few of the very
rare blue walleye and there are also the ancient Ling cod in our lake.
5. What kind of tackle do I need
to bring?

6. When does you season run?
The season will start the third week in May and run through until the end of
September.
7.
If I bring my own
boat will it be safe from rocks?
For a Northern Ontario Lake Dog Lake is relatively safe to navigate. Most rocks
will be marked and we will go over the lake with you during your orientation.
8. Are there any
historical sites around the lake?
There are many historical points of interest our area including 2000 year old
pictographs. We will be happy to point them out to you.
9. How big is the lake and
does it get rough?
Dog lake is approx. 13,500 acres 22 mile long and245ft at it's deepest. When the
wind blows up there's usually some place you can find to fish that's sheltered
from the wind.

Why should I choose a "boat-in" over a fly-in or drive to?
11. Does you lake level fluxuate much?
Our lake level remains relatively stable. The water will be high at the start of
the season and gradually go down throughout the year.
12. I'm interested in the walk-in
lakes
We have several lakes that we use. One we have a motor that we leave on the boat
and the others we have small motors that are carried in. Murray and McMurty are
reached by running through a small creek if the water is high enough

I've never fished for Lake trout before?
We have a lot of Lake Trout in our Lake. The best time to come for Lake Trout is
the first two weeks of the season in May. The water is cold then an the Trout
are close to the surface and are easier to catch.

I'm not that good of a fisherman will I catch fish and will you help me?
We will be more than happy to give you all the advise we can.
Lodging

Do you sell fishing and hunting licenses at the lodge?
We do not sell licenses at the lodge but they are available at the landing or in
Wawa
2. What if I get ill during my stay?
There is a nurse in Missanabie or a regional hospital in Wawa.
3. Do I have to start my stay on
Saturday?
No. Ask for other availability
4. Do you sell alcohol?
We are not licensed but we can get alcohol for you if we go to town.
5. Will I be able to
check my email if I need to?
Yes, we have satellite internet

I'm interested in
taking the train to the lodge?

8. Will my cell phone work?
No not yet but cellular service is always expanding
9. Is there tackle
available to purchase if necessary?
We have a small tackle shop but try to bring what you think you might need.

All are cabins have been recently renovated and are very comfortably.
