Fox's Den Lodge Smallmouth Bass

There is some great Smallmouth Bass fishing in four of our lakes. With their islands,
shoals and rocky points, Murray and McMurdy lakes are the perfect environment to grow good bass populations. Dog
lake has fewer #'s of Bass but they tend to be larger in size. One of our
walk-in lakes(Lomond) also has Smallmouth in it. These lakes are like most
Canadian Shield lake, the bass are mostly found in areas where there are lots of
minnows and crayfish. The bass in our lakes are hard fighting and will go
straight for the air when you hook them. Nothing is more exciting that watching
a big bass jump several times before you bring him in.
The Smallmouth Bass in our lakes average about 1 pound but there are bass up
to the 5-pound mark being caught every year. Mid June and on is the best time
for bass as they have just finished spawning and are concentrated in the
shallows. While Walleye fishing, you will catch Smallmouth as well.
Small spinner baits, small crank baits, tube worms in bright colors, night
crawlers and minnows will work best in our lakes. Some of the bigger bass can be
caught in the deeper water with tube worms.
